Michael Morgan’s paintings
I find the world a marvellous and mysterious place. All my works from the beginning have been an exploration of this. As I get older, I find the images by working with less and less thought of subject matter or preconceived idea. Ideas appear and lead on to another idea.
Intuitively, I improvise and often get amazed and puzzled by the results. Signs and symbols appear, influenced by what I have experienced, read, seen and thought about.
The depths of my unconscious mind are awakened. It all happens like a dream, in spite of me; rather like a Bach fugue, the forms intertwine and take on a life of their own. Rich and lush overlays of meaning feverishly document my being. I just love paint.
Titles for my works are only a guide to put the viewer on alert to many interpretations.

Like Michael’s world, these paintings are marvelous and mysterious.I have not seen such
imaginative works for such a long time. Michael’s creativity is quite extraordinary and will, in my opinion, his works will be a wonderful investment for the future.

Vibrant. Art that really does evoke a response of self-reflection as one thinks of the images and colours and textures in one’s own experience. These works are a mixture of naive intuitive strokes of paint with self-conscious reference to historically established metaphor.
I like the brave blues and brazen reds and embossing black outlines. My favourites are passing parade and nativity.
It is a thrill to see Michael Morgan’s latest work. Michael is a daring artist who loves paint and the joys of the imagination. He is I have several of his works and I will do my best to purchase Lush Life and Navitity. I couldn’t bear to bewithout them. At present I am moving furniture from my house to my garage to make space for pieces that I long to see daily. To me, Michael’s painting are good friends, lively, colourful, warm and charming. There is no other artist like him in Australia or ever has been.

Michael is one of those rare artists – undiscovered by the mainstream, yet a contemporary, aquaintance and friend of Arthur Boyd, John Perceval and Ken Whisson. These works here are among his very best, and are reminiscent of Matisse at HIS very best. Lush Life and Jazzman’s Blues would be my favourites here. Michael’s sea-scapes are very reminiscent of Perceval’s, but perhaps less cluttered. – Hartmayer.
I find the energy and colour in Michaels work amazing. To be around his paintings, makes you feel happy and alive.
Michaels works are a delight to the eye – they are always full of vibrant bold colours. Their interpretation is only limited by your imagination, and each time you study one you see something new.
Michael certainly knows how to make a statement through his paint brush and it is obvious he really enjoys his art work.
Having visited Michael’s studio many times we have experienced the abundance of natural light which floods the work area in all seasons. Put together with Michael’s exuberant enthusiasm we have no doubt that will be many more brilliant works coming in the future.

I just love the vivid colours which epitomise the vitality of the themes and people in Michael’s artwork. And if you have the fortune to meet Michael at his studio on Phillip Island, you will find the same vitality in this talented artist.

mIchael…these are lovely works and I think some of your best. Some are so typical of your work with an abundance of line and character yet you have kept a clarity of vision and subject very, very well. I think this comes through in pictures such as ‘nativity’ and ‘elephant’s joy’. I so like ‘blue water boating’ and ‘passing parade…’, they remind me so much of times in Australia an in Europe.
Colour is so strong in your work and I love the red and blue that comes through so well.

His constant use of psycho-religious subject matter has always produced images that evoke a questioning of ones own view-points. Struggle and joy often reside near to one another, much like that of our own lives. Michael’s paintings wrestle in vivid reality with so many thoughts and emotions, and at the same time conceal just enough information for the viewer to question his or her own interpretation. Each new work is a stepping stone providing further insight into Michael’s thoughts and visions.
Michael’s path throughout this life has brought out and forged in him a gift that manifests itself in painting and more importantly in the willingness to devote his whole life to that end. He has continued to be prolific in his quest to create something unique and positive for the world.
